Unite for Peace
People to People’s Peace Week event, Superheroes for Peace: Art as Prevention, provided in collabration with The Stop the Violence Coalition/Academy for Peace in Wilmington.
The Fashion Steppers, a youth group dedicated to reducing violence in the city and mentored by Dr Jay Macklin, led us in a Peace March. Wilmington Chief of Police, Robert Tracy, also led the March. Superheroes for Peace Awards were given to Jean Raleigh for her exceptional work as co-president of People to People Delaware Chapter and to Amna Latif, wife of Board member Neveed Baquir.
Ms. Latif, along with her team of 150 staff members, provided over 3 million meals to families in need throughout New Castle County during the pandemic. Art Work form PTPDE’s Youth Art Project, created to reflect the theme Unite for Justice, Unite for Peace were displayed. Derek Ogneri, a participant in the art project, received an award for creating a work of art that reflected peace and unity and was used to market our Peace Week event. The program ended with Spoken Word. Our co-president, Saleem Khan, wrote a poem dedicated to Peace for this event.
